Aviva Street Sports'' kicks off again after successful first year.
Football In The Community at Norwich City Football Club is now about to kick off the 2nd year of ‘'Aviva Street Sports'' and ‘'Aviva Match Nights'' projects, which has had fantastic success.
In the 1st year of the project, there have been 11 venues running, seeing over 300 children every week. The children aged between 6 and 16 have enjoyed many different types of sports and exercises in a bid to improve self esteem, reduce anti social behaviour within their local communities.
The ‘'Aviva Street Sports'' Programme has been a massive success in its first year with over 180 children attending regularly each week. The programme has been so successful that a Celebration Day took place at Carrow Park for the children who excelled in the skilled challenges. During this celebration day 16 children along with the parents were invited to watch a Norwich City FC home game against Colchester after completing an action packed fun session at Carrow Park. ‘'Aviva Street Sports'' sessions run at 6 different deprived areas of Norwich. These are Jubilee Park, Jenny Lind, Fiddlewood, Lionwood Infants School, Powerleague Bowthorpe and Heartsease's Towers. The sessions are free to attend, upon a completed application form
‘'Aviva Match Nights'' programme has also been very successful in the first year, with 5 venues running across Norfolk at Thorpe High School, Cliff Park High School, Taverham High School, Watton Sports Club and Acle Recreation Ground, which all take place on a Friday night for children aged between 6 - 12 years. ‘'Aviva Match Nights'' are designed to build self-confidence and build esteem within younger players, as well as helping them improve their basic football skills in a fun environment.
