Street Life Soccer - Year 2 Getting Ready to Start

FITC at Norwich City Football Club have been running Street Life Soccer for the last year and the programme is now getting ready to start for year 2.

In this 1st year of a 3-year project, there have been several success stories. In March 2008 Street Life Soccer won an award for best initiative. This was followed by a nomination in the Adult Learners Week Awards, along with 2 players who are in the last 20 for the England Homeless World Cup Squad.

Lee Thompson who is one of the lads in the last 20 for the England Homeless World Cup Squad said, " Street Life Soccer is awesome, the team who deliver it are so supportive and have helped me get in to my own accommodation. I would suggest that if you like football and you want to get on, this is the place to come,"

Several of the clients involved in the programme, have now moved out into their own accommodation and have work placements or are now starting employment.  19 of the 140 signed up to programme have already been relocated into their own accommodation.

The Street Life Soccer Programme has been a massive success and can offer many different challenges and rewards for all types of people regardless of their social status such as vulnerable housed, ethnic minorities, unemployed.

In August there will be 2 presentations to gain interest from new hostels to get involved for year 2 of Street Life Soccer. To get involved in the project or for more information, please contact the Social Inclusion Development Officer on 01603 761122 or by email at fitc@ncfc-canaries.co.uk.
