FITC Social Inclusion Project Receives Football League Award

On Sunday 3rd March The Football League held their 3rd Annual Awards ceremony at the London Hilton Hotel with a purpose to recognise various clubs for good practice and performance both on and off the field. In 2007 where we extremely pleased to win the Football League Best Community Initiative Award for our Ability Counts programme.

As many of you would have seen last weeks Ability Counts awareness week run in-conjunction with Norwich City FC was well received. The week highlighted many opportunities for fans with either physical or learning difficulties with the opportunity to watch, play or receive coaching opportunities from the FITC Staff.

This year, whilst we didn't receive the award again, we were proud to be highly commended by the Football League judging panel for our Street-Life-Soccer Social Inclusion project. Street-Life-Soccer is a programme aimed at using football and NCFC a tool to engage and support individuals that are either homeless or vulnerably housed.  Working in partnership with Blue Cat, Haves and Norfolk Learning Partnership and the Football Foundation to date, we have had contact with over 100 different individuals that are either based at or with hostels, YMCA's or specialist accommodation providers around different parts of Norfolk.

The participants that attended various coaching and classroom based tactics sessions based at Carrow Park are not only improving their confidence and self esteem they are also receiving specialist educational support to learn key life skills that may help them identify secure accommodation together with full or part time employment in the future.

As seen in the photo above Steve Eastaugh - FITC Development Manager, Steve Girling - FITC Finance Manager and Jackie Thornton FITC Funding and Development Manager attended the evening with Mike Smith-Clare and Frances Longman from Blue Cat to receive the commendation from the Football League. It is appropriate to congratulate both Gavin Coe and Jamie Nielsen who both deliver the Street-Life-Soccer programme for FITC for their commitment and delivery within the programme.
